Personal PETALS reflections 🪞

On Fridays, I like to use the #PETALS framework to reflect on my week with personal ratings and annotations as to why.
Transcript
It is the 20th petals snapshot of spring 2024 made it a month. Happy days with that. And today I want to talk about what I tend to do on the Fridays and where petals actually came from originally. So what I tend to do every Friday evening as I'm winding down for the weekend, I like to reflect on the previous week. And this is where petals came from originally. I'd use those five factors to measure myself, but I actually scored myself out of ten. And then I'd write some little notes about what was the successes from the week, what challenges I might have faced, and what I've learned from it as well. So ideally, every week and it's on a Monday, I can then have a bit of an action plan as to what to go after that week and what to keep an eye out for as well. And I also had that lovely data trend over a long time because I've been doing this for over two years now and I can start to see a few trends. I can align it to sort of moments in the career or things that are going on with the day job or whatever are happening outside of work as well. Never really limited petals to just my working week. I allowed my personal life to come into this as well, something I do encourage teams to think about when they, when they want to talk about it in a psychologically safe space and maybe any sort of side projects or hobbies that you might have as well, just to kind of complement that in a different way. I love my Fridays. I put another podcast out every Friday morning, so there's a lot of vibe and fun around that as well. And yeah, it's just I like to use the other things as outside of work to kind of really think about where my weeks have been. Food for thought. Anyway, as I say, petals is a framework. It's not just a teams based thing. You can use it yourself, you can use it in a pair, you can use it in a wider environment. Have a play and let me know what you're doing with it. I'll be back again next week after the bank holiday weekend with some more petals snapshots.

THIS was the origins of PETALS that evolved into a team exercise but it still brings value to me after 2 years of habitually doing it.
