Today, the third day of these snapshots, I want to talk about the importance of serenity. So serenity came about as the opposite spectrum to stress originally. Now, why is serenity so important in the workplace? We talk about serenity as the calmness to the world, as the mental wellbeing to yourself, and all the positive benefits of that. When you have serenity in your life now, how does that adapt to the workplace? Some people say it's important to have a bit of stress in your workplace. I'm not going to argue with that. But if you have too much stress, you start making bad decisions, you start struggling under the strain, you break down barriers and connections with your teammates. This is why serenity is so important in the petals framework yesterday I had quite a few stressful moments in my day. I had a conversation with a colleague about her trauma that she'd just been through with her friends. Very difficult conversation to navigate, but I felt comfortable having that conversation with her. I felt better afterwards, knowing that she felt better from having a conversation with me. I had quite a difficult conversation with a peer as well, based on some recent feedback. But by going to a room with him, going through the context in detail, and actually having a face to face conversation to read his body language, it was so much easier. But it was really pushing me out of my comfort zones. I wasn't feeling particularly serene, I was quite stressed. But the benefits of doing it calmly and in a succinctly and objective way really helped. This is why serenity is so important in the petals framework.
